Storage motion or clone not working?

Hi all,

I am having a rather strange problem. I have vcenter running on a virtual machine and am trying to migrate the storage to a new lun (2MB block size to 1MB block size) and keep getting a vim.fault.invaliddiskformat. I initiate the storage motion in one of 4 ways (all of which I believe to call the same process) powershell, perl script svmotion.pl, when migrating a virtual machine between hosts, and through a plugin by Kultz; all of which have worked in the past. I have also tried to clone the machine thinking that I would deal with whatever fallout may occure (shouldn't be much). But with either process I keep getting an invalid file / disk format error. The server will boot without a problem and acts normal, I have even recreated the config files for the server so I knew I was dealing with fresh config files but when esx / vcenter is moving the vmdk file something is marked as invalid and the process fails. I for one am stumped and any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.
