no altgr functionality - linux host, xp or vista guest

Hi,

Host OS - openSUSE 11.0 64bit all updates current.

Guest OS - Windows Vista Business 32bit

VMWare Workstation 6.5.0 64bit for Linux (installed using .bundle)

Altgr works fine on the host. Not on the guest. Have also tried XP Pro w SP3, same problem.

Keyboard set to Icelandic both on host and guest.

Please help!

Tom

Hi,

same Problem here:

Host: Ubuntu 8.10

Guest: Win XP

After Update to VMWare 6.5 the keyboard didn't work properly, I could fix that regarding this thread.

But the ALT GR key does not work. It's behaviour is, as it isn't pressed. Pressing ALT GR and '' (german keyboard) should bring an '~', but brings up an ''.

Using the keys STRG an ALT instead works.

Any idea?

Hello,

I have the same problem. Ubuntu 8.10 host, Vista guest, Finnish keyboard layout.

To me it seems, that AltGr maps to enter key. Very difficult to enter unc paths
something\something, because \ is AltGr and + on a Finnish keyboard.

Hi,

Same problem here:

Fedora 10 2.6.27.5-117.fc10.i686

VMWare Workstation 6.5.1 build-126130

That's not the only problem I got. It seems quite buggy.

Hi,

I added keymap to /etc/vmware/config

xkeymap.keycode.108 = 0x138 # Alt_R

xkeymap.keycode.106 = 0x135 # KP_Divide

xkeymap.keycode.104 = 0x11c # KP_Enter

xkeymap.keycode.111 = 0x148 # Up

xkeymap.keycode.116 = 0x150 # Down

xkeymap.keycode.113 = 0x14b # Left

xkeymap.keycode.114 = 0x14d # Right

xkeymap.keycode.105 = 0x11d # Control_R

xkeymap.keycode.118 = 0x152 # Insert

xkeymap.keycode.119 = 0x153 # Delete

xkeymap.keycode.110 = 0x147 # Home

xkeymap.keycode.115 = 0x14f # End

xkeymap.keycode.112 = 0x149 # Prior

xkeymap.keycode.117 = 0x151 # Next

xkeymap.keycode.78 = 0x46 # Scroll_Lock

maybe there are other keys missing, but for now am happy

Merry Christmas

Hello Margate,

This worked great! We run VMware workstation 6.5 on a Ubuntu 8.10 64 bit version, and could get the Alt Gr button to function.

Your solution was the only one working for us (and we tried alot before we found yours)!

THANK YOU!

/Kristian
