You can use the VI Client to define very granular security for users which you can also lock down at the host level (method obviously depends on whether running on Windows or Linux) and file permissions on the scripts containing the vmrun commands which helps to mitigate the risk of there being known credentials outside of your admins.

Thanks for your answer and the link. Is there a way to create custom permissions for vmware server 2 in linux ( something like vi client does or permission files that I can add and/or modify)? or is there a way to import permissions created in vi client in windows to linux?
