    Server management console communitcations problems.

      Hi,

I've just installed the RC2 version of server 2 on a newly install Fedora 9 x86-64 system.

The install ran through without a hich but when I try and connect to the management console I get a timeout error when trying to login.

Checking all the services with /etc/init.d/vmware status produces the folling output.

Bridged networking on /dev/vmnet0 is running

Host network detection is not running

Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet1 is running

DHCP server on /dev/vmnet1 is running

Host-only networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running

DHCP server on /dev/vmnet8 is running

NAT networking on /dev/vmnet8 is running

      Module vmmon loaded

      Module vmnet loaded

If I try and connect using the following

      vmware-vim-cmd -H localhost -O 8222 -U root -P -d verbose hostsvc/hostsummary

I get the following output and then no more.

      Current working directory: /var/run

      Using system libcrypto, version 90808F

      Vmacore::InitSSL: doVersionCheck = true, handshakeTimeoutUs = 120000000

How do I diagnose management interface to server connetivity issues in the version2  software?

          Further information.

Looking in /var/log/vmware/hostd.log I see the following.

          Http Service started: Server UNIX(/var/run/vmware/proxy-mob)

SSL Handshake on client connection failed: SSL Exception: error:1407609C:SSL routines:SSL23_GET_CLIENT_HELLO:http request

SSL Handshake on client connection failed: SSL Exception:

          PAM symbols loaded.

and in webAccess/proxy.log I see a number of the following messages.

          [2008-08-24 15:02:49,813,http-8308-1<=>,RequestProcessor] Error processing action request /action/login : ; nested exception is:

                  java.net.SocketTimeoutException: Read timed out

            Further information.

            I've disabled selinux and rebooted

            I've disabled iptables firewall

            Still no joy.

On boot all services appear to start and I can get responses from vmware-vim-cmd hostsvc/hostsummary

Once I try and login using the web the vmware-vim-cmd interface stops working as well.

This is becoming very frustrating, the VM engine seems to be in and running but no way to manage it. Is there a more reliable management interface foir this product?

We had some problems where the network gets killed after the vmware tools applcation starts up.  This happens during initialization.  I put a one liner in rc.local something like:

                   /etc/init.d/network start

Sorry I am able to get on that system at the moment to give you a more definitive answer.

              Hope this helps!
