LSI Logic driver for XP does not work

Hello

I am having a problem getting a newly created XP VM to see the virtual HD using the LSI logic scsi driver. I am following these instructions http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vdi-xp-guide.pdf which I was given by VMware. I was told this is the most current version of the guide for installing XP for VDI.

I have tried everyway I can think of including deleting the vm and recreating. Custom creating the vm and telling it to use LSI logic instead of Bus logic and then attempting to load the lsi logic .flp driver. Thinking I may have a wrong version of the driver I downloaded one from this site which looks very current but still no go.

Has anyone had these issues and if so what did you do to resolve it?

Thanks for your assistance.

Correction to my post - I downloaded a .flp image from the techhead site. I found it was the same drivers I was already using. I scp'd the .flp up to the host and tried it anyway and still receive "Windows cannot find any drives"

Check this discussion. There is a link to download a different version of the LSI drivers. This did the trick for me.

Good Luck!

Thanks for response vmroyale - I just tried the .flp drive in that download from that discussion and still I get "setup did not find any hard disk drives"

I am using VMware 3.5 update 1 and VirtualCenter 2.5 update 1 with all patches through end of June.

This appears to be a big issue with the use of VDI. If VMware is telling everyone a certain driver should work then it should work. VMware is also saying the LSI logic driver is better to use than Bus logic. If this is not true then they should not say it.

Anyone else have any suggestions ?

Something else that occurs is everytime it does not work it corrupts the virtual disk and it has to be deleted and recreated. Is this the same as everyone else having this issue?

OK everyone - here is what finally worked for me. First I want to say

the VMware .PDF instructions at this site

http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/vdi-xp-guide.pdf need to be re-written

and be a little more specific. It also has one glaring mistake in it

telling you to set the virtual floppy to "connect at power on" which we

all know is wrong because it will make the vm try to boot to it.

What finally worked for me was:

1. Create a "CUSTOM" XP VM ! Set the scsi driver to LSI logic vs Bus

logic (If you take the Typical path it will automatically assign the bus

logic driver which will not work). You can also delete the virtual disk

and recreate one and change the scsi driver to LSI logic BEFORE you

attempt to turn on the VM.

2. Use the .flp image from this discussion thread

http://communities.vmware.com/message/838234#838234 - named

WinXPSCSI.flp. It appears these files are dated 1/4/2007. These are

the only ones I have been able to get to work. They allow the Virtual

Disk to be seen by Windows XP.

3. Build the XP vm and install VMware tools - then you are on your way.

Hey - VMware ... fix the Windows XP Deployment Guide. PLEASE !!!
