ESXi host failing to be a memeber in a HA cluster

Hi, when I try to move an ESXi 3.5 server into a Ha cluster on an VC server it fails. Following error message can be seen in the Tasks & Events flip.

Command 'hostname -s' on host (ip address on host) failed or returned incorrect name format.

How can I correct this?

Have you renamed the ESXi host? Are you able to ping between the ESX hosts in the cluster by the host name that is used in VirtualCenter? Are you using the FQDN or other in VC when you register the ESX hosts? Lastly, is the HA cluster ESXi hosts only? Mixed HA clusters (ESX 3.0.x/3.5 AND ESXi hosts) are not supported at this time.

Just FYI, mixed HA clusters of ESX and ESXi are supported with Update 2:

VMware High Availability (HA)

VirtualCenter 2.5 update 2 adds full support for monitoring individual virtual machine failures based on VMware tools heartbeats. This release also extends support for clusters containing mixed combinations of ESX and ESXi hosts, and minimizes previous configuration dependencies on DNS.

Hi, I am just testing out VMware in a test lab. I have not renamed the ESXi host.

I registered the host with the ip address in VC

I have got 2 ESXi hosts, one registeres fine in HA , but the otherone only gets the error message posted orginially.

I have removed the Host from the VC and then added the host again, but the same error occures.

Is there a simpel way to get this working? I am would realy like to start testing HA functionality.

As I mentioned earlier this is for the moment just in a test lab, so I am ready to try every god suggestion:-)
