The documentation states that you can add hard drive to the system while it is running. While it appears to be that you can add them, I haven't been able to find a way to see the drives appear on a running system. What are the limitations of this, what types of systems can take advantage of the new drive while the system is running? I run a bunch of Ubuntu systems in virtual machines from 6.06 LTS to 8.04 LTS all servers. I have tried to add drives to a few of these but dmesg doesn't show the drive as there and it doesn't seem to get mapped to a SCSI ID I can address with Fdisk or to mount. All the machines have been updated to type 7 machines, and some of these are brand new machines build directly on RC 1.
To see the new drive to have to rescan the SCSI interface, it is not done automaticaly by Linux.
