Are you monkeying around with FF source code or something? Only available version I can see on the web is 3.0... Even having FF 3.0 check for updates returns "No updates available"
I have my flags set to deliver early versions of applications that are in prerelease in ubuntu. My primary machine was not impacted by this issue as it is still using Firefox 3.0.0, but my test box which I do a lot of testing from ran into this issue. There is actually another thread on this issue so I will just follow the instructions from there to correct for this problem and make it go away on the far too many servers I have running the RC1 code.
3.0.1 was delivered to me just a bit ago and, immediately, it says there are compatibility problems.
I had it installed before the upgrade and it seems to work fine. The installer is just overly critical when doing a version check.

Only Firefox version available is now 3.0.1 and Vmware plugin is not compatible!
I'm monkeying around with Vmware Server 2 RC 1:^0
I use "MR Tech Toolkit" addon: https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/421
With this you can force compatibility of addons - of course with a warning about stability - but it works for me ...
When installed just right click on the vmware plugin - here you can force compatibility.
