Can't upgrade VMware Tools

Linux host, w2k guest.

I have never had a problem before (up through 5.5.6), but when I upgraded to 5.5.7, the Install VMware Tools no longer seems to work.

It just sits there doing nothing (with the menu changed to "Cancel Install of VMware Tools").

Has anyone else encountered this? Does anyone have any ideas on the cause of this problem?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Bumping this hoping that someone who might have missed the post before has an answer.

Did the install run from the CDROM after you told it to install? If not, you may need to run the setup manually.

Does the tools cdrom show up in your VM?

I am sorry, but your reply made no sense to me.

What CD-ROM? Nothing happens at all when I select "Install VMWare Tools..." from the "VM" menu (except I get a cancel or install dialog box). I don't see any tools CD-ROM.

Selecting the Install VM Tools mounts an iso file as the CDROM. If autorun is enabled in a Windows environment, the process begins. If not, then you will have to run the setup program manually. If you bring up explorer, you should see a CDROM drive which is the .iso file mounted as drive D or E or whatever the W2K drive letter is. If not, something went wrong with the mount process. At the risk of sounding like an RTFM Smiley Happy, you might want to have a peek in the users guide for installing the tools in a Windows guest.
