Migration will cause the virtual machine's configuration to be modified

when I try to migrate a vm from a 3.0.2 to a 3.5 esx host, i am getting this warning

migration will cause the virtual machine's configuration to be modified, to preserve the CPU feature requirements for its guest OS.

is it ok to migrate?

That happens in all 3.0.x -> 3.5.x migrations and is just a benign warning message.

Yes, it is okay to migrate. ESX 3.5 adds a line for CPU stamp in VM configuration file and modify it after each further migrations.

Do you mean that a CPU mask will be added to the VMX config file for the VM?

If so, what's the purpose of that?

I got the same warning message when trying to migrate a VM from an ESX Server 3.0.5 U2 to an ESX Server 3.0.2 U2.

The hosts have identical hardware (Dell PowerEdge 1950 with dual Intel Xeon 5150).

Thanks.
