Downloading patches

I know the new layout has been around for a little while now but is it just me or is it not harder to look at and download patches now? Is the java app the only way to download patches now?

I've had that stupid java piece only download 1/2 of the selected patches, or the 1/2 that it did say it download are no where to be found in the location I told it to put it .... very frustrating.

I think Java app is the only way for downloading patches now. I am also reluctant to use such java pieces to download anything but it seems there is no other choice here however it worked fine with me and I found all the selected patches downloaded.

Also I have not tried the "update manager" feature of VC 2.5 yet. Probably that is another way of downloading patches.
