I have two virtual machines running XP SP2. For some reason the NIC driver did not load on either of them. I have tried installing the vm ware tools, downloading the AMD PCnet driver, and even copying the drivers folder from a working XP virtual and using that but I have had no luck getting the driver to install. Can anyone please point me to the correct driver to load?
try this way :
shutdown your vm
remove all nics
boot vm
shutdown it again
add a nic
boot vm
look if you have network connectivity (if not you have other problems)
install vmware tools
reboot vm
let me know

Did you configure an ethernet adapter on your VM?
VM > Settings > Hardware > Add > Ethernet Adapter.
You don't need to install your AMD driver on the VM, this will have no effect.
Hope this will help.
Yes, I have one installed and it shows in device manager under other devices as Ethernet Controller but I can't get the driver to install.

Worked perfectly! Thanks.
Is there a way to remove the SCSI controller that also shows as an unknown device?
removing the device from windows device manager and from vm's configuration did not solve the problem ?

When I go to VM > Settings > Hardware I don't see the SCSI controller there so I don't know how to remove it from the vm configuration.
and if you remove the device from windows device manager what happens ?

If I remove it from device manager and reboot I get "new hardware found" and fails to load te driver.
Is there maybe a config file somewhere that I could use to edit out the SCSI controller?
it's a "brand new" machine or you have p2v it ?
Which scsi controller are you using (BusLogic or LSILogic) ?
could you post your vmx file ?

I found what I needed in the vmx file. I just didn't know what file to look in.
rriva ... you are the best !
I've been trying to get my ethernet controller to work ...for days. I was just about to uninstall vmware and try look for something else.
I really couldn't find the solution of just removing the ethernet and adding it again as a solution anywhere. I tried the windows way of trouble-shooting, and disable and enable it, from inside windows.
Thanks a lot !!!
