I've got a VM with a stuck VMware Tools install. It's out of date and I tried to perform an upgrade. It hangs to the point where I had to kill msiexec which I hated doing.
guest OS: XP pro sp2
host: 3.0.2.52542
Any tips? I've considered manually removing it, running MSICUU and then reinstalling but that's pretty invasive. Will save that as a last resort.
I'd reboot, shutdown any un-needed services and applications and try again. If it still gets stuck then try un-installing VMware Tools, rebooting and installing fresh.

Well, as the subject line says ... uninstall also hangs. And yes, this is following reboots. In fact, after killing MSIEXEC, the NIC is in an unusable state which a reboot fixes. Presumably this is because it is hanging during the NIC driver upgrade.
