VM Tools Upgrade Causes Server 2003 to take forever to reboot

After upgrading ESX to 3.5, and VC to 2.5, we are now going through and upgrading the VMTools in the guests. It seems that after the initial upgrade of VMTools a few of the Server 2003 32 bit VM's are taking forever to reboot. They sit at the Server 2003 black spash screen. Anyone else seen this?

Have you already upgraded the virtual hardware? Are you seeing this from an RDP session or at the console in VC? if it is from a RDP session check the VC console and see if there is an error/warning to answer.

We have upgraded our VC and hosts and after running the upgrade to VMtools on our guests the issues we see are as follows.

Reboot never completes. Solution Reboot from console while its stuck in boot up then rerun the tools installer and select repair.

Guest CPU 100% Solution run tools install again and select repair.

Console reports "tools old" Solution Reboot and reinstall tools select repair.

Our Trend has been on 90 guests so far is to repair to get them back to normal....
