Unrecoverable error: (vmx) Unexpected signal: 10.

    richlong Lurker

I updated to the latest Fusion build and keep getting this error when I attempt to enter data into a form.  I have an application I am trying to log in to and then got it again when I tried to enter a URL in Firefox.  Anyone else seeing this?

You can try by complete uninstallation and reinstallation of VMware Fusion to troubleshoot this issue.

Uninstall VMware Fusion and install the fusion VMware Fusion 1.1.1(72241) again.

          1) To uninstall following are the steps

                  a) Quit VMware Fusion

                  b) Uninstall VMware Fusion (Hard Disk/Library/Application Support/Vmware Fusion/Uninstall Vmware Fusion)

                  c) Delete the following folder: Hard Disk/Library/Application Support/VMware Fusion

                  d) Delete the following file: Hard Disk/Library/Receipts/VMware Fusion.pkg

                  e) Delete following file: Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.vmware.fusion.plist

                  f) Delete the following folder: Home folder/Library/Preferences/VMware Fusion

          2) Install VMware Fusion (double-click VMware-Fusion-1.1.1-72241.dmg and then double-click "Install VMware Fusion")

          3) Enter the serial number you got with VMware Fusion 1.0(51348)

          4) Please be sure to  install the latest version of VMware Tools in your Virtual Machines

after installing Vmware Fusion 1.1.1 (72241)

Note that above mentioned steps are to uninstall and reinstall the fusion application. By doing this there wont be any changes in the Virtual Machine (Guest OS, Application installed and Data saved).

Is there a simple way to repopulate my virtual machine library after performing the steps recommended?

A bit premature on my post...  This did address my issue.  Thanks so much for your help!

I have the same issue and have followed these steps but did not work for me. I did not track the first serial number though so all I did is reactivated again and entered the serial number that came up hoping that was the original one. Can someone tell if I did the right thing?

I had this error as well.

I had to remove and reinstall twice before it finally worked again.

I already did three times. I went back to 1.1 and is still broken. Fusion 1.1 was working so well...

Okay, finally rolled back successfully to 1.1  Let me know when they fix the 1.1.1 bug ...

If your Virtual Machine Library is empty after following the unistall/reinstall procedure, then try this:

                        1. Go to /Home/Documents/Virtual Machines and double-click the .vmwarevm file.

                        2. Replace the alias in your Dock if necessary.

After following the procedure posted by MPM01, my VM Library

was blank. Attempts to add a new machine were inexplicably unsuccessful

as there was no response from Fusion.

The uninstall/reinstall placed v1.1.1 in the Applications folder. If you placed the earlier v1.1 in a different folder, as I did, then it is probably still there unchanged. I trashed the older one without any nasty repercussions. It's working, and so am I, finally.

I believe VMware should post in their Web page on the exact procedure on how to upgrade to 1.1.1.

I just had this error show up tonight.  Your instructions were spot on (except that I couldn't find a receipts file).

Thanks very much for this!  It seemed to fixt the problem AND save my existing Windows installation!

I'm pretty displeased that this even happened -- I don't expect software just to stop working like that when I haven't made any settings changes to it.  I hope that this is not going to be a regular occurence.  I'm beginning to wonder if I should have gone with Parallels!

Please let us know when you a fix for this. I still like Fusion and want to buy it but I need to ba able to upgrade. I will stay with 1.1 for now.

I have had the same experienxe as others who have installed the latest update:  regardless of the application opened, or attempted to be opened in Windows, the above-referenced error message appears and the virtual machine shuts down.

I have tried now 3 times to unistall and reinstall, using the downloaded VMware Fusion 1.1.1-72241.dmg file, but get the same error message and automatic shutdown.  The only variance experienced from your detailed instructions was that I found no file: VMware Fusion.pkg at the following location: Hard Disk/Library/Receipts/

                                Can you offer any assistance?

Less than 2 weeks ago, I posted on this forum that I had had this unrecoverable error.  I followed the instructions and was able to re-install VMWare Fusion.

Today the VERY same error happened again.  There have been no preference changes, no new software installs, nothing in the last week and 1/2 to the Mac.

So I have again followed the instructions, and I TRIED to go back to my original install disk, which had been quite stable.  Unfortunately, the original version would not open my Windows instance.  So, I have once again installed the latest version.

The error still is happening even after the unistall and new install of 1.11.

I cannot recommend this product at this point -- not until this issue is fixed.  So, I am pointing my friends towards Parallels now.
