Problem with Virtual Machine Startup - This virtual machine appears to be in use

I am trying to start up my virtual machine, but I get an error: 'This virtual machine appears to be in use' - which it isn't, I click Take Ownership and it just comes back and asks me the question again. I click cancel and the app goes away. There is a suspend file I notice in the same directory as the config file, but I'm guessing that player handles this transparently as there is no way to open this file explicitly.

How do I get access to my VM?

I am running VMWare player 2.0.2 build 59824 on Windows Vista 32-bit and my guest OS is OpenSUSE 10.3 with Gnome.

before you open player etc are there any .lck files/directories around? if so you should try removing them.
