Connect to virtual machine's console

When I tried to connect to a virtual machine console I got the following error:

|Cannot connect to the virtual machine.|

Cannot

because the
connected
party did
not properly

I can connect through web access to the host.

can you attach to your Win2k3 remote desktop via MSTSC /C this will give you console access? can you connect to the console via VirtualCenter? have you made sure that your Guest has a Gateway or is even switched on. ie can you ping the guests IP address

  • Which host OS / VMware product do you use?

  • What is the guest OS?

  • Which client do you use to connect (to what? Host or guest?)?

If I got you right you try to access the guest, which is W2K3, through a web browser?

If you want to connect to the guest's console connect to the ESX host and download the VI Client. This is the client to connect to the consoles of your guests.

If you want to access somekind or webpage on your guest, try "http://localhost" within the guest, first.

The VI client is installed, but I can't connect using console tab. I get the same error.

The rest is working? Connecting to the ESX host, configuring it, creating guests etc? Only the guest console isn't working?

Or does the VI client doesn't connect at all?

Can you ping the esx host where the vm is hosted? I believe you have to be able to ping it by the label that it has on VI.

Yes, I can ping the esx server. I send you a print screen for the error.

The error is the following:

Error connecting: Cannot connect to host 136.145.126.168. A connection attempt failed because the connect party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond. Do you want to try again?

I can ping the server and I can connect to the host'sweb interface but I can't connect to the console of any virtual machine.

What was the outcome of your problem & how did you fix it.

I'm sitting with our Production ESX 3.5 server doing this on our VM's. Our Developement box is fine tho.

Hi, i have the same strange problem. But it's not all the time and on different esx in the same cluster.

I have three esx i cluster and when the problem occurs all the vm's on that esx i unrechable via the console in VIC, but can connect via rdp, ping vm....

Did you found out what's causing this?

Have you tried to connect by connecting through the Virtual Center first? Have you tried to connect to the ESX host directly and seeing if you can console?

If you can console when directly connected through the ESX host then its something with Virtual Center. Try it on all 3 and see.

Hi,

You will get much better answers by not hijacking this old thread (no offence btw) as you can give us better pointers to your problem and we don't get diffused by someone else's problem (which was solved according to "correct" marked answer)

Additionally a new question will also help as you can then hand out points to the person with the best answer.

You could always reference this thread of course if it helps explaining your issue.

However you "might" be helped with the following link:

cheers!
