whenever there is change on physical switch, ESX host lost network, need reboot

whenever network guys made a change on physical switch, the ESX host losts the connectivity, and after reboot the ESX host (4.0 update 1), it reconnects.

Any idea what can prevent this?

There are 4 nics on each ESX host, 3 are trunk for production and console, 1 for vmotion. each nic connect to a different physical switch.

Hello.

Note: This discussion was moved from the VMware Workstation community to the VMware vSphere™ vNetwork community.

How many physical switches are in the environment? How is the networking set up on the ESX host?

Good Luck!

thanks, just update the network info. 3 nics (trunked) for a production vswitch, 1 for vmotion vswitch, each of 4 nics attached to a different physical switch.

Does it lose all network connectivity on all vmnics? Even if a change is only done at one of the physical switches?

yes, it lost all connections even changes made on other switch or router.

That seems really strange. What kind of changes on the physical switches causes this?

How is the networking setup on the vSwitch? What NIC teaming policy do you use?
