vlan tagging on vswitch, vsphere 4.0

Hello Friends,

I have a small problem, hope can find solutions.

I have two branches setup in this way.
Branch 1 - 150.60.20.x range ( Physical switch vlan 1503)
Branch 2 - 150.60.70.x range (Physical switch vlan 1503)
in branch 2 vsphere environment is setup,, has 2 vmnics ( IP range - 150.60.20.x) standard vswitch is configured with vlan of 1503, so that all vms can use 150.60.20.x ip range of Branch 1.

I have a requirement to install new VM in Branch 2 with an IP - 150.60.70.xx.,,,,, but i am unable to ping the gateway 150.60.70.1 (physical network in Branch 2, has vlan 1503 on physical switch)

So now, what i can do in vsphere  to get this VM-150.60.70.xx to be able to ping the gateway of 150.60.70.1 in this branch.

Thanks in advance for your Help..

It's not a good idea to have two subnets sharing the same VLAN, especially if you are using an SVI to route the traffic between VLANs. Check your routing table to see how it's configured, but I'd imagine that your gateway is set to 150.60.20.1 for VLAN 1503, which doesn't know how to get to 70.1. You'd have to configure a route between the two.

It seems like you did not route this 150.60.70.1 range IP address. One the other hand if you wanna use 150.60.70.1 this separate range then you have to create another VLAN. After creating VLAN you have to route the VLAN. Then you can ping different IP address other wise not possible.

Cheers, Udin

Hi everyone,

how about this,, If i add one more vmnic to the both hosts and give ip address of the range 156.60.70.x and create a new switch with new port group. then i will add a new vm to this. Then it should be able to ping and hence will be on 156.60.70.x range ?? right ????
