vSwitch failures?

Do vSwitches fail? I am trying to figure out how many vswitches I will need for my network and have some serious concerns of how to handle my 8 nics. My current plan is to use 4 vswitches: Management, vmotion, storage (ISCSI), and VM Client Networks. If I assign 2 nics to each of the categories and have a vswitch fail then I will completely lose one of my networks rendering the boxes useless.

if a vswitch fails its more then likely that your entire host is down for the count

The vswitches are part of the kernel and knock on wood, but I haven't seen one screw up yet (since its all software level).

I've also never seen a vSwith failure, but agree that if it did happen, chances are your facing a much bigger problem than your vswitch. Smiley Wink

I have been using esx since 1.5.1, no vswitch failures ever.
