vSwitch VLAN Change

Hi,

Hopefully this is in the right discussion forum; I have an upcoming change to an iSCSI network for a customer, and I just wanted to validate my logic with another engineer if possible.

Currently, their management and iSCSI storage traffic are both on the same VLAN, VLAN 0 (even though they use two different IP subnets for Mgmt. and iSCSI ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )

We are deploying a solution for them that properly segments their iSCSI in VLAN 2, Mgmt. into VLAN 1, vMotion into VLAN 3.

We plan to do a storage vMotion from their existing Equalogic SAN, to their new SC series Compellant (Dell) SAN.

In order to do that, we'll need to shutdown all VM's, change the VLAN assignments on the physical switch ports for the old SAN, and of course the port groups on the SAN vSwitch on both ESXi hosts.

In theory, I see this working without issue, but I've never actually done it.

Is there anything I'm missing, or should be aware of?

Would I need to reboot the hosts or would an HBA rescan suffice?

Is there an easier, less disruptive way to do this without downtime?
