Currently we have a cluster with four nodes and now we are going to add additional separate cluster. The existing cluster hosts are similar in hardware configuration and have 4X10G NIC. But the New cluster hosts have different configuration and each host has 4X40G NIC.
Based on the VMware documentation, VMware recommends to make hosts with similar port number and speed together in a distributed switch. In our case even if the number of ports for the new and existing is similar, which is 4, the speed is different.
So my question is what could happen if we continue to use the existing distributed virtual switch instead of creating one?
The reason we insist to continue using the existing distributed switch is, if we create a new DS we have to create a duplicate port group and that would create complexity to the environment.
