Hi,
I am trying this on VMware Workstation 10.
Demo1:
======
VM1:
I install esxi 5.5 with 2-vmnic & 8GB-RAM 120GB HD
ip=192.168.163.251
hostname=esxi1.myesxi.lan
VM1->vCenterVM:
I deploy the vCSA with 4GB
ip=192.168.163.250
hostname=vcenter.myesxi.lan
This was deployed as a VM inside my esxi server.
VM2:
I installed windows 7 on a vm with 1GB & 40GB
I then install google chrome
ip=dhcp
hostname=ws7.myesxi.lan
Notes:
I an not using any DC/AD
i modify vm1, 2 & vCenterVM hosts file with this info:
127.0.0.1 localhost
::1 localhost
192.168.163.250 vcenter.myesxi.lan vcenter
192.168.163.251 esxi1.myesxi.lan esxi1
192.168.163.252 esxi2.myesxi.lan esxi2
192.168.163.253 esxi3.myesxi.lan esxi3
192.168.163.254 iscsi.myesxi.lan iscsi
How do i go about migrating the VSS to VDS without losing connection.
I need a step-by-step note so i can replicate it in VMware workstation.
Demo2:
=====
VM3:
I will installed esxi on another vm with 2 vmnic 2GB + 120GB, then add it to vcenter, see if the VDS was transfer, it not i will add VM3 to the VDS and then see if it has transfer.
Demo3:
=====
if all goes well with demo2 then with demo3, i will edit:
VM1 to 4.5GB-RAM
VM1->vCenterVM to 3.5GB-RAM
VM3 to 4.5GB-RAM
VM4:
I will install esxi with 2 vmnic 4GB + 120G, then make sure the VDS is transfer to it.
Then create a tinycore linux VM and move it around, play with it.
VM5:
I will create a freenas or openfiler iSCSI VM and add it the vcenter and see it all esxi server get's it, then move the vCSA storage to the iSCSI datastore.
enable HA/DRS and play around a bit to see what will happen. shutdown esxi servers to see if VMs will load on another server.
Thanks
Note: if all goes well, then I can now do my production network on real gears.
