VMXNet3

Ok here is my problem, I have  24 guest, 23 of which are using the VMXNet3 NIC.

The 24th guest is running windows server 2003 R2 Std. and is using the Flexible NIC, We are moving our total network to 10gig.

I can not replace the Flexible NIC with the VMXNet 3 NIC as it does not show upon in the list of NIC's.

So how do I fix this or am I stuck with it.

..also, power down the guest remove it from inventory, browse the datastore, add the vmx to inventory, try again.  Restarting the management agents on the ESX(i) Host where the guest is registerd wouldn't hurt either.

in order to use the VMXNET3 adapter, your guest will need to be at virtual hardware v7.  Is this the case?

..and the guest OS is correct if you edit settings--Options--Guest OS.  Also, please cofirm again while in the edit settings window, the top right says Virtual Machine Version: 7

...and make sure your guest tools are current.

VMtools up to date?

If all else fails, you could always create a new Empty VM, then add the disks for your VM to this, so the resultant VM is the old one, with the new hardware?

Alternatively, try make the change with PowerCli:

Lastly, try migrate the VM to a different ESX host and make the change there?

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

indeed an oddity.  when you power down the guest and add network adapter, what options do you have? The adapter is supported for your guest OS
