VM are not able to ping with Gateway through another NIC (except console nic).

I have configured one of the ESXi 4 on DL380 G6 server.

This server has 8 port NIC card like VMNIC0,VMNIC1,VMNIC2,VMNIC3,VMNIC4,VMNIC5,VMNIC6 & VMNIC7.

VMNIC0 is configured as console cable & assigned IP address 192.168.1.210 (VLAN 11) in a same way we have configured other NIC

VMNIC3 & VMNIC5 (VLAN 10)

VMNIC2 & VMNIC6 (VLAN 11)

VMNIC1 & VMNIC7 (VLAN 12)

We have created 3 VM's all are in VLAN 11.

Whenever we move this VM to a Vswitch connected to VMNIC2 & VMNIC6 we are not able to ping with the gateway but when i move these VM to a console switch (VMNIC0 which is in same VLAN 11) i can able to ping with the gateway through these VM's.

I have checked the NIC card 2 & 6 there is no any problem I have checked the switch port of NIC 2 & 6 ther are absolutely good.

I have checked the VLAN of port 2 & 6 they are correct (VLAN 11 as console VLAN)

What is the reason of this strange behavioure?

Is there anything i need to chek from ESX side?

Have you came across of this kind of behaviore from any another customer?

Please let me know your input on the same.

Thanks

Hello,

Make sure the vLAN Trunking is correct within the pSwitches

Make sure the vLAN ID within the PortGroup is associated with the Physical Switch vLAN ID. "Put the vLAN ID in the PortGroup"

Also, check out the following;

Host1

vmnic0 <--

> vSwitch0 <--

> pSwitch1

Host2

vmnic0 <--

> vSwitch0 <--

> pSwitch2

And the same goes with the other nics.

Hussain Al Sayed
