Understanding Port groups in vDS

Hi, I am new to vDS. I am still not clear about Port groups. I understand in standard switches we define, types of Port groups i.e VMkernel or VM network but I am don't understand how port groups are defined in vDS.

Also, can someone please explain how the dvUplink works. In standard switch you add nic to switches and then port group uses them but in vDS I am not clear.

Thanks in advance.

To create port groups on vDS, go to Home -> Inventory -> Networking and right click the vDS where you want create the new port group and select New Distributed Port Group. Take a look on this blog post for additional details: vSphere 5.5 Web Client Workflows – Create Distributed Virtual Switch and Port Groups - blog.shiplett...

dvUplinks is to where you will map your vmnic (physical NICs) and provide connectivity to your physical network.
