Removing a crashed ESXi host from vCenter with a Distributed Switch

I  have an ESXi 5.1 host that has crashed with no recovery. It was part of a Distributed Switch which now shows "Not Responding" in the Distributed Switch Hosts tab in vCenter.

Do I remove this host from Distributed Switch Inventory first, and then remove from vCenter? Will it let me do that?

I have removed hosts from vCenter when they are not crash, by removing the physical nics from the Uplinks and such and then removing the host from the Distributed Switch and then removing the Host from vCenter. But I have never been in this situation when the host is dead.

I do not want to break vCenter nor more importantly break the Distributed Switch and have bad network passed along.

Hi,

You can safely remove the host from the Distributed switch using the "Add and Manage Hosts" wizard. Select "Remove hosts" on the first page and then pick the not responding host on the "Select hosts" page.

Regards.
