Question on dvuplinks VLAN settings

On vSphere 4.1, if I click on the dvSwitch-DVuplink-XX, and then edit settings, there is a VLAN section which has VLAN trunking (greyed out) and Vlans 0-4095.

My questions are:

Why is this greyed out ? Is vlan trunk the only option for dvs switch uplinks?

If I change the vlan to anything other than 0-4095, I lose network connectivity to my VM which is in a portgroup configured with vlan 228 on the portgroup side. Shouldn't I be able to put 228 in the uplink setting as well?

I think it is because you assign vlan tagging on port group, not on dvUplink.

I don't think I understood your second question correctly. Where do you change vlan?
