How to change default dVS proxy ports from default of 256?

How do you change the per host proxy port limit of 256?  Proxy ports are used to map to one of the vDS ports when a VM is running on that host.  If you run out of proxy ports you will not be able to add more VMs to the vDS on that host.  I understand that in ESXi 4.1 there is a limit of 1016 ACTIVE ports and in my environment I have VMs running multiple NICs so we are hitting the 256 proxy limit before the 1016 ACTIVE limit and need to adjust this setting.

Thanks

Philip
