Export Networking configuration

We are about to deploy 4 new ESXi4.1 servers in our VMware setup. Our network has quite a lot of Vlans configured (40 vlans). is there a way to do this more easy than manually create them. Can we export the current network-setup and import this on the new servers? (thinking of script or some freeware tool. Read somewhere that veeem.com has some tools to do backups - but if there were some other way then.....

Hi,

You can maintain your configuration consistence using Virtual Center Server "host profile" Settings.

   Brief about host profile :-

Detail information about host profile :-

Thank you. Unfortunately I do not have the license in my  vSphere 4 Enterprise. But it sure looks like a nice feature.

Distributed Switches is anohter feature of Vsphere which allows you to create network configuration at cluster level. It means we do not need to configure the network by going to each and every ESX box. howerver it comes with Enterprise Plus license.

without enterprise plus you are in a bit of a pickle...

I would suggest using powercli to create a script to make the switches. Granted there is a bit of pain making the script but once you have it it will be identical for all servers.

THere is a new book Vmware Vsphere Powercli reference (by Alan Renouf , L Dekens, G Sizemore, A van Lieshout and J Medd) that goes into details on how to do this. He has several scripts on the book that allow you to copy the networking from one host to multiple hosts. By the way scripts listed are available for download.

good luck
