ESX 4.0 cluster patching considerations when using a Cisco 1000V

Hi,

I'm looking to patch a bunch of outstanding ESX patches to a 6 node 4.1.0 cluster which is using a 1000V switch across it. I've been happily upgrading other clusters with normal vSwitches but was wondering if there were any special considerations or actions required when doing this in line with the alternative networking setup? Is there an assocation between the versions of each?

Thanks

Chris

Chris,

Used be that when you patched ESX you had to patch N1KV VEM modules as well. Since ESX 4.0U2 that is no longer the case. Our VEM modules are compatible with ESX patches that are in the same train.

If you are going from 4.0 to 4.1 a new VEM patch is required. If you are just patching 4.1 to 4.1U1 no new VEM module is required it will work with 4.1U1.

You can check out our compatibility matrix here
