Distributed port group

Hi guys,

Is there any reason/benefit to have a distributed port group without a vmkernel adapter?

I'm assuming you're referring to a vmnic, the physical network adapter? If so, the answer is "rarely." The VMs in this port group cannot talk to anything outside of the host that they reside upon.

If you are talking about a host's vmkernel interface, the reason you'd have a dvPortgroup without one would be to serve VM guest traffic.

Which VMkernel adapter you're talking about ? The management VMkernel adapter ? Anyway take a look here: Distributed vSwitches, go Hybrid or go Distributed? - Yellow Bricks
