We have a HP5900 switch where 3 ports are aggregated in Static mode, ESXi 5.5 is connected to the switch.
We have set "Route based IP hash" on vSwitch0 and on the VMkernel Management network Portgroup.
We have a windows server connected to the same switch to a single port and there is no aggregation for windows host.
VLANs allowed for aggregated port and single port is the same.
When I do "display mac-address" on the switch, it is seen that the mac-address comes up for sometime and disppears.
However when IP is assigned to the windows machine and to the ESXi host, they fail to ping each other.
Any switch configuration or ESXi configuration I am missing here.
Is the host able to ping to any other nodes on network?
How about the windows machine does that successfully ping other nodes on network?
If Yes, then the issue would be with the VLAN configuration. ON the ESXi host if LACP is configuration all the uplinks must be active and load balancing set to IP hash which is already done.
Apart from this if there is any VLAN tagging to be done needs to be configured only. attempt to remove tagging and then check connectivity for the host.
How about ping from switch to host and switch to windows machine?
ping from switch to ESXi host and ping from switch to windows machine works fine.
ESXi and windows is in VLAN-1, but both the machines are not able to ping to each other, ESXi NIC ports are in aggregation in the HP5900 switch. ESXi has standard switches and guess that does not require LACP config. Please help.
That actually directs us to point more into the network as both the nodes are able to send traffic on to network. We might want to check the VLAN configuration on the switch ports where these are configured if all looks good then do a packet analysis.
To add to the above, I removed the aggregation configuration on switch for ESXi, now ESXi is able to communicate very well.
ESXi bridge aggregation on the hp5900 switch is not very compatible and seems to have issues.
