We are currently planning to migrate from standard switches to distributed switches with vCenter & hosts running at version 6.7. We have about 30 hosts.
Is it recommended to use one vDS across all vCenter? Or have 1 vDS per cluster? What's the best practice.
Also, I was reading an article that recommended keeping 1 NIC for standard switch on each host for management in case of failure of vCenter. Would you recommend to keep it for management only. It's (20gb/s) or should I add another service on the standard switch port groups?
Thank you in Advance for your answers!
If the all hosts in the clusters have common configuration you can use single VDS across all Clusters. If have different configurations like segregated network like DMZ network, Management network and Data network using seperate vswitch or dvswitch then I suggest to segregate the dvswitch accordingly. about uplink (vmnic) absolutely need to remove one uplink from each vswitch/dvswitch and attach to new VDS so keep running hosts and VMs. For best practice configration dvswitch you can look this guide. https://www.vmware.com/content/dam/digitalmarketing/vmware/en/pdf/techpaper/vsphere-distributed-swit...
