I have a VM that shows an old unsupported version of vmwaretools. When i try to upgrade, I get an error: Unable to install vmware tools. An error occurred while trying to access image file "/usr/lib/vmware/isoimages/linuxPreGlibc25.iso". That file certainly doesn't exist. I attempted KB article 2129825, but im not getting anywhere. Windows based machines upgrade without issue.
The VM guest OS is set to Debian GNU/Linux 5 (32-bit). Hosts are VMware ESXi, 7.0.3, 19193900
Any thoughts?
Also, my ESXi hosts are on version 7.0.3, 19193900
"The VM guest OS is set to Debian GNU/Linux 5 (32-bit)" - What is the actual Linux build and make sure it support with 7.0( or with the vmtools you are trying in install)

Use open-vm-tools Linux package instead and something as old as this you might not be able to install any new tool version.
Hey!
Did you find it? I am in the same situation - https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2147454
You can try getting it from a physical/virtual machine that has VMware Workstation installed. I think an ESXi 6.5 or earlier installation might have it, too. For Windows, it can be found in C:\Program Files (x86)\VMware\VMware Workstation.
You might ask why don't I just attached? Apart from the large size (>50MB), I think it would be an EULA violation by posting commercial software or parts of it in public forum. So even if it was a few KiB, I should not be posting it.
