vsphere standard edition license details

Hi, we are running vsphere essentials now for some time and its time to consider an upgrade. I want to be able to have more than 3 hosts. I looked at the standard edition but there's very little info on what you get for your purchase. Is it a package license like essentials or are you just purchasing 1 host/cpu for each purchase?

Welcome to the Community,

You will actually have to purchase the vCenter Server license as well as the required number of CPU licenses. However, VMware offers Acceleration Kits, which are basically starter kits, and contain vCenter Server as well as 6 CPU licenses (see http://www.vmware.com/products/vsphere/pricing). Such an Acceleration Kit can be purchased once per site, and you can then purchase additional CPU licenses as required. I'd suggest you contact your VMware reseller, and ask for an upgrade from your Essentials Kit to a Standard Acceleration Kit.
