vcenter 6.5 update2 to 6.7

Is it true I cannot upgrade from 6.5update 2 to 6.7?

if so is vmware going to fix this issue in the future?

I upgraded my vcenter to 6.5u2 all on windows vcenters. Now i am planning on going to 6.7 via a direct upgrade

Yes, it's true. Yes, there will a path in the near future. This was also disclosed in the release notes which, hopefully, you read because that's what you're supposed to do and all.

Regardless if he didn't read the notes, 6.5 update 2 should have been able to be upgraded to 6.7 from day one.

upgrade from 6.5 u1 to 6.7 good.

upgrade from 6.5 u2 to 6.7 bad.

Just my opinion on the matter.

6.5U2 to 6.7 is not supported because its a back in time upgrade. 6.5U2 was released after 6.7 so there is code and security items that are not in 6.7. I'm afraid that you'll have to wait for a version that provides a supported upgrade path.

So where can we check the official status of the upgrade path support of 6.5U2->6.7?

You can wait for 6.7 U1 for that upgrade path.

I am confused about the version number {6.5U2}.

I currently have vcenter server appliance version 6.5.0.1200 installed. As of today they offer vcenter server 6.7.0d for download. I want to upgraded to this, is this a upgrade path or migration.

That is an upgrade path.

Thnx!

Where can I find the "upgrade path" instructions. I am finding too much info on this conversation to find what I need.

From downloads at my.vmware.com I only see the VMware vCenter Server Appliance 6.7.0d iso. will it intelligently upgrade? or other steps needed?

Running the wizard from that ISO has an "Upgrade" path which is an automated process consisting of deployment of a new appliance and moving the identity plus data from your 6.5 vCenter to a 6.7 vCenter.

vSphere 6.7 Update 1 announced at VMworld. (note: general availability will be later this year). It provides an upgrade path from vSphere 6.5 U2 to vSphere 6.7 U1.

Ok, so 6.7 U1 is out... where on earth is the info on how to upgrade a 6.5U2 to 6.7U1 in place?  I do not want to re-deploy this thing again?

All upgrades to major releases of the appliance result in effective re-deployment. But once the temporary IP/hostname are up on the new appliance, it migrates the configuration over. You can then turn off the 6.5 U2 appliance.
