vSphere and ESX 3.5 in one vCenter

Dear all,

we have 10 ESX hosts and 4 of them are not compatible with vSphere. Is it possible to upgrade the vCenter and 6 hosts to vSphere and keep 4 hosts at 3.5?

I know, that it is possible, but are all 3.5 features working for the 4 old hosts? Or is this combination only created for the meantime while upgrading the whole farm?

Best regards

Peter

This is fully supported - the old 3.5 hosts will not lose any functionality - but of course will also not gain any.

Most people on these communities would have been through this exact scenario in their various upgrade projects.

good luck

One day I will virtualise myself . . .

just remember, if you are going to manage VI3 hosts in a vCenter 4.x instance, you'll need to keep your license server online or install a standalone license server
