vSphere Client Roles

Hi,

I have a question regarding roles in vSphere Client. In our enviroment we have a Cluster assigned to our team of developers. It contains 4 ESX hosts and a number of VMs. In our datacenter I have a group created for developers with some restrictions and that group is assigned to their cluster. All they can do is, shutdown, restart, power on VMs, change Notes, access performance tab and use console. In other words I don't want them to delete, create, migrate, modify anything.

Few days ago, I received a question from develop team leader that he can't see Datastores in resources tab (it is empty for them). Something that I as admin can see:

Is there a way to allow them to see this resource when they select Summary page of their ESX host cause they need to know how much space is left on storage for future developments and requests for new servers? I only wants to give them View option, not change, move, browse or anything else.

Thnx in advance.

Hi,

Assign the role read-only or assign your custom "power-on, power-off" role. both will work.

Have a nice day.

Try to go to the "Datastores" View and give access on the datastores they need to see.

Thank you for fast reply. So I need to set up seperate rights for hosts/clusters and datastores? Does it matter which role I give them under datastores (read only or the one I have set up for them in datacenter part of permisions)?

Thnx.
