vCenter Upgrade to 7.0.1

Hi,
we have 1 VCSA with some ESXi clusters with ESXI 6.5 or 6.7.
Is it possible to upgrade the VCSA to 7.0.1 and after that to upgrade the other servers bit by bit...?
Is it necessary to create new licences in the portal for 7.x ?
There are known problems with the V. 7.x or can I upgrade them without hesitation?

Hi @SirHaschke,

You should always check the release notes for any known issues that might arrise during/before/after an upgrade on a vCenter Server or ESXi server.

Please consult the following pages for the latest kown issues and upgrade issues from previous versions:

In general you should be able to upgrade any 6.5/6.7 vCenter Server versions to vCenter Server 7 U1, like is shown in the upgrade path checker:

In regards to your question around the license, yes you will need a new vCenter 7.x and ESXi 7.x license. You can upgrade the current 6.X licences or split and upgrade them if you have active SnS subscriptions.

One question about the vCenter upgrade...
I have read this article:

Does the vcenter get the ip and name of the original vcenter again?
Because in the article i must enter an IP and Name for the new vCenter. Is this only temporary?

Hi @SirHaschke ,

Yes, this is only temporary. You will have to use a temporary VM Name for the vCenter, and use a temporary IP address. The vCenter upgrade will use these during the upgrade and it will re-configure the (new upgraded) vCenter back to the original IP that was used on the (old) vCenter.

Another question....
We have upgraded vCenter to 7.0.1 and some ESXi in the cluster to 7.0.1 too.
In the cluster there is older HW that don't supports 7.0.1.
This ESXI is running V. 6.7.
Is it possible to upgrade the HW-version and the tools of the VMs or must they run onder HW-version and tool from ESXi 6.7?
