vCenter Server and Host version mismatch

I have a vCenter server of version 5.0.0 (build 455964)

I have 5 ESX hosts, and each one of them is of a different version -

Host01 - 4.1.0 (build 348481)

Host02 - 5.0.0 (build 469512)

Host03 - 5.0.0 (build 469512)

Host04 - 4.0.0 (build 208167)

Host05 - 5.1.0 (build 799733)

I am trying to add these ESX hosts to the vCenter inventory, and i am getting all sorts of errors.

Will this version cause issues ? Is it possible to add 4.x and 5.1.x hosts to a 5.0.x vCenter server ?

Thanks.

Hi,

VC version should be always equal to or higher than host version.Running mixed ESX/ESXi versions in an HA/DRS cluster is supported but be careful not to mix older VMs running virtual hardware 3 or VMware tools 3 in the same cluster with ESXi 5.0 hosts

To manage ESXi 5.1 you would need vCenter 5.1. Check Product Interoperability Matrixes to know the vCener compatiability
