vCenter Server 2.5U4 to vCenter Server 4.0 (but with retained performance stats)

Hello Community -

Is there a way to upgrade vCenter Server 2.5 Update 4 in-place to vCenter Server 4.0 (vSphere) and retain the performance stats under ESX3.5U4?

If easier, I have additional servers and able to install vCenter Server 4.0 onto separate server and then import performance stats.

Please offer some advice on options for proceeding with upgrades to vCenter Server 40 with Performance Metrics. No roles or permissions, nor Alerting present.

First make a backup of your DB.

Then do a inline upgrade, to be sure then the DB will be converter to new format.
