upgrade query from esx3.5 u4 to vsphere

hai

i sucessfully upgraded my test server with 1.5 tb of lun from esx3.5 to esx4.0 , now i want to do it to my company production site it has 4 ESX 3.5 hosts and 28 live servers ,

precautions i did for test upgrade upgraded vcentre and

1) shut down vms

2) moved esx to maintainance mode

3) started hosted update facility pointed to that esx 4dvd iso image and upgraded sucessfully

4) upgraded vmtools

5) upgraded virutl hardware

now i am going for my production site

these are the general steps i follow but my production cluster has 28 vms in common lun of 2tb

besides shutting down vms what should i do to the lun, should i leave the lun attached to esx during upgrade (earlier i left it as it is ) and upgraded sucessfully but this is my live environment and i dont want to

have any disaster

all advices are most welcome

So did I.

Last week i upgraded 4 esx hosts from v3.5 to v4.0 with 6TB on data.

On the next site, you can find the howto's again for the upgrade.

my two cents:

1. before upgrade ensure that your hardware (chipset, SCSI controllers, HBA, etc) are in the ESX 4.0 HCL.

2. Upgrade the BIOS and HBA firmwares to the latest one.

3. Read the vSphere Upgrade guide 4.0, especially the chapters 10, 11 and 12.

http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vsphere4/r40/vsp_40_upgrade_guide.pdf

4.Read the Upgrade known issues which are described in ESX 4.0 release notes.
