I would like to update this to the 6.5 lenovo build
any thing to know or beware of or is it pop in the disk boot and it will ask me to upgrade?

1. Confirm if your hardware supported to go for 6.5
2. Have you installed 6.5 with standard iso or lenovo custom iso?
3. You can try to upgrade to 6.5 (using iso) or command line or update manager provided your vcenter is already at 6.5 to manage the ESXi host.
