unable update new patches to ESX 4.0

Hi,

We have built new ESX 4.0 servers and VC. When we try to update the patches from update manager. we get the below error

"Vmware vCenter updatemanager had an unknow failure. Check tasks and events tab and logs for more details"

For some of the server it got installed but for most of the servers the same error.

Please get back to us at the earliest.

Details :

ESX 4.0 build 4.0.0,208167

VC 4.0.0 build 162856

Update manager : 4.0.03194

Try to restart Updatae Manager service.

No dear, tried rebooting VC , services and even ESX hosts. no results.

We have hp-classic-mgmt-solution-840.21.2217 installed on the hosts additionally, rest all the defaults.

shirish, After the update falure, take the esxupdate.log and attach here. Its located in /var/log/vmware.

Also try patching after killing HP management agent, there was a patching issue in 4.0 with HP mgmt agent. see this KB for details
