start all vmwares with a delay

i have  esxi 4.1.0 testing machine with lot's of vmwares (150+)

after a crash or power failure, i can't start all 150 vmwares at once, otherwise my Esxi machine will HANG. I can still ping the machine, but no SSH and the keyboard attached to the ESXI does not respond.

Is it possible to automatically let all machines start but with a 20 second break between them, so the the ESXi won't hang??

Hope this is possible!

Hi,

There is an option for auto start/shutdown in the config---> software  tab.

See here http://www.vmadmin.co.uk/vmware/35-esxserver/111-esxautostartstop

You can also check this out - http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=850

don't really see how this wil work?

Normally in VIC i select the server, Tab Virtual machines and select them all. Right click Mouse, Power > Power ON and send Power on command to all machines immediately.

If I set a delay of 120 seconds and all machines get a Power on command on time 0:00 they all going to power up and use HDD (think that is causing the troubles and makes the machine inresponsive) at time: 120:00

So would that make a difference??

i think this only works when starting the ESXI server up completely. And every VM gets a delay of 120 seconds? Or will all 150 vm start in those 120 seconds?

Furthermore, let's say my Esxi is running and 50 machines run on it. I want to start up the other 100 but with some delay between each machine. How to do that?

Thanks!

I thought you were looking for a solution to start up VMs after a host crash or restart - of course this assumes you are not using VMware HA - if you take a look at http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=850 you can specifiy the specific order as too which the VMs start as well as provide a delay -

If you ESXi host is running and you will want to start the remaining 100 machines you will have to do that manually or via script -
