some questions about the selection of the ESXI installation disk

I have some questions about the selection of the ESXI installation disk. When I inquired about I/O compatibility, I found that no matter which brand, there seems to be no SATA disk (ssd or HDD) displayed, only the array card or NVME SSD displayed. Does it mean that when I choose a system disk for installing ESXI, if it is not of NVME type, I don't need to check the disk compatibility guide, but only need to check the compatibility of the array card where the system disk is located? Are ESXI system installation disks compatible with all common disk types by default? As described in this kb (https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/2145210?lang=en_us), it only needs to meet the corresponding durability? If there is a compatibility guide for this SATA system drive, please let me know the link. Thanks!

A SATA disk you don't see any issue. What you need to check is the controller, not the disk. In 15 years I never saw a SATA disk that was not compatible with vSphere. Even I use some old ones (80/100Gb) for the ESXi install in my homelab.

For array card or NVME SSD is different. You need to check the compatibility for both.

@LucianoPatrão  Thank you very much, is there any KB to support this statement? I need to explain to the enterprise customer why SATA disk compatibility is not found, thanks again!

Hi,

Honestly, I do not know any KB where this is referring. KB only talks about the type of disks and formats.
