hi,
After upgrading one of my cluster members - IBM x3630M4 with ESXi600-202002001 I can no longer use the datastores on the machine.
They are shown as inaccessible in Vcenter and cannot be mounted.
I suspect this is a driver gone issue in latest update.
Please help me understand if I need to totally revert the update (how?) or I can just add the driver back somehow..
esxcfg-scsidevs -a
vmhba0 megaraid_sas link-n/a unknown.vmhba0 (0000:11:00.0) LSI / Symbios Logic MegaRAID SAS Fusion Controller
seems that I'm using
Model: ServeRAID M5110
please help me understand the situation better and how to best solve this and keep my system updated on the way...
thanks,
Justin
Hi,
Greetings for the day.
As I understand you cannot make use of datastores after updating ESXi 6.0 and you are suspecting issue with storage controller driver.
Regarding the same please reach out to hardware vendor if there is any updated driver available that can help to resolve the issue.
To revert back to previous build you may follow KB: https://kb.vmware.com/s/article/1033604

Hello.
IBM sold the intel server brand to Lenovo, some time ago.
Attached is a link to the latest Lenovo ISO custonizable for version 6.0 U3.

Verify that you have the /opt/lsi/storcli directory, if you have it we could know details of your disk controller. Performing the following commands from an SSH connection
root@ESXi:] cd /opt/lsi/storcli
root@ESXi:/opt/lsi/storcli] ./storcli /c0 show all
The important thing is to know the status, firmware level and driver of the disk controller you are using.
hi
can you please point me to the doc explaining how to perform an ESXi host upgrade using an ISO file?
also from the command line, should I run
esxcli software vib install
or
esxcli software vib update?
thanks,
Justin
regarding the controller,
on the host in question (which was rolled back using Shift-R to VMware ESXi, 6.0.0, 9313334 )
I have :
esxcli storage core adapter list
HBA Name Driver Link State UID Capabilities Description
-------- ----------- ---------- -------------------- ------------ -------------------------------------------------------------------------
vmhba0 lsi_mr3 link-n/a sas.500605b006e39ec0 (0000:11:00.0) Avago (LSI / Symbios Logic) MegaRAID SAS Fusion Controller

Hello.
Usually you will find two formats in VMware Software.
One is the ISO which is usually used to create a bootable image on a CD or USB key to install or upgrade VMware.
Another is the Offline Bundle (VMware-ESXi-xxxx.zip) which is used to upgrade from CLI.
We can get the driver (Vib) of the disk controller from the offline Bundle.
The important thing is to know if the disk controller is recognized correctly, its status, its firmware and the driver it is using. In order to update it if necessary.
