Hello
I want to migrate existing VMs from vSphere host 5.5 to vSphere host 6.5
Is this possible or do have to upgrade first my vSphere 5.5 host?
Kind regards,
Roland
Yes, that's possible, but need to check your virtual infra first.
You need to check CPUs of both hosts if the CPU architecture is matching and is with same class as of source host. If both host has access to same datastore where VMs are residing, then shut down VMs, browse these VMs via datastore browser and register on new host.

This link VMware vSphere 6.5 – What to be aware of before upgrade | StarWind Blog guides through all the steps needed while checking your infrastructure. Hope this helps a bit.
Also keep in mind that if you upgrade the VMs' virtual hardware version once you move them to a 6.5 host, you won't be able to move them back or power them up on ESXi 5.5 unless you play around with VMX settings.
