how to p2v server with FC HBA attached disks?

im new to vmware.

Our ESX 4.0 environment is connected to an EMC CX4 via FC. I have carved out a couple SATA LUNS and attached them to our ESX environment and have successfully P2V'd some servers onto the datastores I created on those LUNS.

Now, I have a server that has 2 FC HBA's connected to a brocade switch. This server has its "E" drive mapped to a SAS LUN on the CX4 via fiber, using EMC Powerpath.

I want to P2V that server, but once it is P2V'd, how do i reconnect the "E" drive? Can the VM also make use of the HBA's that the ESX servers are using? (not sure how I would zone that...)

Can I move the LUN for the server into the same zone as the ESX LUNs and them use an RDM for that VM? If I do that, will VMware reformat that LUN?

Any advice?

Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the forums.

Yes, this is exactly what you can do. Formatting this storage would only be an issue, if you tried to add the storage as a datastore, as opposed to adding it as a RDM.

Good Luck!
